Questions and Answers

Is it true in the Utah release, when you share a Dashboard that contains reports, they're now shared altogether instead of having to share reports separately?
-- Derek Mulhern
I recall homepages being an issue, but never dashboards and reports. I've done plenty without any issue since Paris.
-- Chuck Tomasi

Can you copy old workspaces into the new builder? To use as a template?
-- Daniel Menter
The happy path is creating a new workspace in AES. The builder expects the AES Workspace Template's homepage, list, analytics center, and record page templates. If a developer migrates an old workspace, they will not get all benefits of usability that Workspace Builder can provide. For example, they may have to go to UIB to configure their homepage and they will not have an Analytics Center Page auto-generated for them. As a caveat, there are many robust customizations available in OOTB workspaces (e.g. CSM) that are not available in our workspace or features that need to be configured differently than in past releases. So creating a workspace from AES gives you the benefit of usability in Workspace Builder but may make it more challenging to customize certain things in UIB and the platform
-- Lauren McManamon

is this SAP specific or will the same functionality exist for Oracle
-- Albert DiPaolo
Currently this is for SAP only but there will be more ERP platforms to come in the future!
-- Lauren McManamon

What is the major difference between Sandiago, Tokyo And Utah.
-- Midhun Ravulapalli
That's a VERY big question. I recommend checking out the release notes at https://docs.servicenow.com
-- Chuck Tomasi

Does this mean that RPA studio is now embeded in the PDIs or still needs to be installed locally?
-- Martin Ivanov
You can install the Robotic Process Automation (RPA) Hub application (sn_rpa_fdn) if you have the admin role. The application includes demo data and installs related ServiceNow® Store applications and plugins if they are not already installed. Reference Doc : https://docs.servicenow.com/bundle/utah-integrate-applications/page/product/rpa-core/concept/rpa-set...
-- Pranav Bhagat

Can we get this recording after this session to share with other members in our organization?

-- Earl Duque

Is this ECM output of Gekkobrain acquisition
-- Dhiraj Singh
Yes
-- Chuck Tomasi

Can you use it for extending an OOTB AW?
-- Georgian Raileanu
Workspace Builder supports workspaces created in App Engine Studio and cannot be used to extend our product configurable workspaces or legacy Agent Workspace.
-- Chuck Tomasi

Oooh. Like that shirt Chuck. Sitting here with my sunglasses on.
-- Shiraz Bhojani
It's the best kind of bright!
-- Earl Duque

will worksspaces be considered custom apps?
-- William Collins
Workspaces I believe are considered part of app configuration, so global is possible too.
-- Earl Duque

Can UI Builder work with external CSS, HTML Templates designed in any UI designer tool?
-- Saranesh Gadamsetty
UI Builder uses a react framework so if you build a component then you can import anything as normal. Natively in UI Builder is platform specific.
-- Earl Duque

Can't move media around fyi
-- Lillian Aviles
Hi Lillian, you have to scroll over the media player, then click on the click and drag tool (it looks like two arrows)
-- Jessica V2

Wich workspaces will not be supported by Workspace Builder?
-- Geza Orgo
Ones built prior to Tokyo Store Release 1, not utilizing the template
-- Lauren McManamon

Can Document Intelligence be of good help to generate pdf for records?
-- GURU PRASAD MURALIDHARAN
DI is more for reading the PDF records, you would use other tools in the platform for generation
-- Earl Duque

is hermes also more secure way ?
-- Anmol Poddar
Absolutely yes
-- Pranav Bhagat

Will we be able to create a loop now in Flow Designer? Like reopen flow for example?
-- Mateusz Grześkowiak
Loops are already possible with “Do the Following Until Flow logic”, but this is not supported in Diagramming as of yet. It’s coming soon. Per the question about loop back, this is actually on the roadmap: ability to go-back to a previous step in the flow and resume/restart. We’re hoping to deliver in Vancouver, but may be delayed to Washington.
-- Lauren McManamon

Do decision tables count against your custom table limits?
-- James Dunigan
No they do not. I'll confirm this for you though to be sure. (They extend from a table that is not counted)
-- Earl Duque

Awesome Session
-- Atul Grover

-- Jason Hanson
Workspaces are still an outstanding item for Guided Tours as of Utah.
-- Chuck Tomasi

are there any changes in the agile boards? scrum master reporting etc.?
-- Aga Wojcik
Unfortunately, I don't know. I haven't the bandwidth to keep up on all the products across the spectrum. I recommend you attend some of the upcoming sessions on Service Portfolio Management (previously ITBM) and ask there.
-- Chuck Tomasi

-- Chuck Tomasi

Wowww thankss
-- Shivalika Gupta

Do you know of any applications that are not completely compatible with Utah currently?
-- Tobias Daum
None that I know if. That doesn't include custom apps from customers or partners though. Any number of bad practices could be an issue when upgrading. Test, test, test.
-- Chuck Tomasi

Will flow diagramming now support all activites?. It used to not.
-- Jace Benson
We are making incremental progress. The store release aligned to Vancouver (safe harbor) will introduce Subflow support in Diagramming. The final feature remaining is "Do the following until" flow logic. We have it as a stretch goal, and are trying to land that feature in Vancouver (or Vancouver + store release) "subject to changed based on capacity and priorities"
-- Lauren McManamon

Is workspace builder limited to App Engine? Wondering if we have to pay to access workspace builder
-- Dan Schreiber
Yes, Workspace Builder is limited to App Engine
-- Lauren McManamon

Workspace builder did actually come out in a Tokyo store release but in a primative version to the one being officially "debuted" now.
-- Lauren McManamon

Can RPA hub can be used for performance load testing?
-- Bogdan Tomov
There's probably easier ways to do performance load testing, but if you want to control actual endpoints to do user behavior, then yes!
-- Earl Duque

Thank you for the interesting information! Could you elaborate a bit on how exactly the new admin experience will look like?
-- Sabyasachi Mukherjee

So anything that can be edited in the new UIB
-- Dan Schreiber
I'm not sure what the context of this statement is or the question? Perhaps you can clarify in the comments below if your question wasn't answered live.
-- Chuck Tomasi

Integration HUB - for data exchange between ServiceNow and other SaaS platforms, do we need a MID server?
-- Reza Asachi
You only need a MID server if you need to access systems inside your corporate firewall. If the other SaaS systems are cloud based, then you can access them directly.
-- Chuck Tomasi

Does it allow you to export ServiceNow data to SQL?
-- Kaniel Battles
I'm going to assume this question is about the log export utility given no other context and that we didn't talk about exporting anywhere else... My understanding is that it's not so much the exporting that is done to SQL, it's the consumer service receiving the information. Think of it more like putting the logs on a "bus" and making the data available.
-- Chuck Tomasi

for csv import in IH - can it import file from mid-server only or from other external sources as well ?
-- Yatharth Batra
The CSV support we mentioned was for Integration Hub Import which is a GUI/interactive web page and does not involve the MID server. If you are looking for data sources or using Integration Hub to get your files, then yes, MID servers are supported as is FTP.
-- Chuck Tomasi

Any updates on new javascript version getting extended to exisiting platform configurations?
-- GURU PRASAD MURALIDHARAN
If you mean "global", not as of Utah. Our product teams are working to make this happen in a safe way. Remember, there's a LOT of scripts in global that have been there for years (since the system was running ES3).
-- Chuck Tomasi

are you planning to also release features specifically built for pro coders?
-- Martin Kirchweger
Yes, we even have script editor quality-of-life stuff coming soon. QoL stuff like dark theme. And also, as a previous dev lead, any low-code stuff makes my life easier to focus on more the interesting things.
-- Earl Duque

Is there any automated process application coming for creating an update set for dashboards?
-- Mubashira Qari
Not that I'm aware. You may want to look at promoting your apps using other methods like source control or the App Repo. They are far easier to manage and App Repo, for example, prevents people from making changes in prod.
-- Chuck Tomasi

Page 66 is missing from posted presentation slides.
-- Michael McQuillan
We've updated the slides. Please refresh your browser to see the new version.
-- Jessica V2

Is connect chat supported in Next Experience in Uta?

-- Alejandro Gutierrez
Yes. We are excited to get more of them attending in-person and get our dev advocate team members to as many as possible.
-- Chuck Tomasi

When would you say does Flow Designer reach feature parity with Workflow e.g. loop back
-- Tomas Lozano
Flow Designer approaches things slightly different than Workflow. 99+% features are 1:1 supported, and the 1% that are not there are design patterns to achieve the same outcomes. Per the question about loop back, this is actually on the roadmap: ability to go-back to a previous step in the flow and resume/restart. We’re hoping to deliver in Vancouver, but may be delayed to Washington.
-- Lauren McManamon

could you respond to unanswered questions via email?
-- Diane Key
All the answered and unanswered questions will be responded to and posted to the community article at https://devlink.sn/tn95blog. You will be sent an email with all questions/links to take you directly to your question and response. (We use our own software to do that too!) :)
-- Chuck Tomasi

The flow design have being very slow when setting conditional (if, for etc), there is any performance enhancement in this release?
-- Igor Araujo
I'm not aware of any performance issues. This sounds like an issue best dealt with customer support.
-- Chuck Tomasi

Will we be able to create a loop (going back to previous action) in new flow diagram setup similar to the Workflows?
-- Mateusz Grześkowiak
Loops are already possible with “Do the Following Until Flow logic”, however if you have several go-backs, it can be a tedious process to design. While design pattern exist to address the use case, we’d like to simplify for our low-code users. This is on the roadmap: ability to go-back to a previous step in the flow and resume/restart. We’re hoping to deliver in Vancouver, but may be delayed to Washington.
-- Lauren McManamon

Do you still have to enable dark theme to use themes?
-- Aaron Braun
(from the product team) You do not have to enable the dark theme variant to use themes in Next Experience. Dark theme is shipped with the out of the box Polaris theme and is currently only supported with the Polaris theme. For more information see: https://www.servicenow.com/community/next-experience-articles/dark-theme-in-next-experience-san-dieg... can use Theme Builder in Utah to create your own core theme with a few clicks. Theme Builder themes do not support dark theme at this time. For more information on Theme Builder see: https://docs.servicenow.com/bundle/utah-platform-user-interface/page/administer/navigation-and-ui/ta...

-- Chuck Tomasi

Will any of the store apps be available for pdi instances or only for persistent customer instance
-- mehul bhavsar
Many store apps are available on PDIs (not all.) We are always reassessing what's available. Please let us know if there is something you are specifically looking for. Thank you
-- Chuck Tomasi

What is the difference with the Schema map?
-- Willem Zeiler
Very similar! This one is embedded directly into Table builder
-- Lauren McManamon

How are these end user builder developer tools able to manage in a path to production where they build in a dev environment and the migrate the workspace or catalog item to a UAT and production environment? Is that still intended to be managed by developers with update sets or is there a level end users can leverage to manage and migrate enhancements.
-- Jon Beck
There are much better ways than update sets. I recommend looking at App Engine Management Center that has configurable pipelines
-- Chuck Tomasi

when you showed off the dashboard creator and builder will that be the enhanced version of the one in the San Diego's version?
-- Huu Ly
I don't recall seeing a dashboard creator. We showed Workspace Builder. Could that be what you are thinking of? If so, that's a whole new experience for building workspaces, which can later be modified to more detail with UI Builder.
-- Chuck Tomasi

Does Hermes connect directly to the customer app or it works also via MID Server? Also, is this available for both cloud and on prem models?
-- Georgian Raileanu
I believe Pranav answered this question live.
-- Chuck Tomasi

Hi All
-- Atul Grover
Hi Atul! Thanks for joining!
-- Earl Duque

-- Blake Molmen
Workspace Builder will pertain to ones built using the experience workspace template Tokyo store 1 version and beyond.
-- Lauren McManamon

So many types! Receipts, travel itineraries, inventory documents, etc.
-- Earl Duque

Are we going to see new components in the UI builder in Utah?
-- Samiksha Sonam
Always! Every release we get new components
-- Earl Duque

-- Jon Beck
Love the Nike to Nike love! Thank you for letting us take Pranav! He is wonderful!
-- Earl Duque

Are there Dashboard for monitoring the queue items for RPA?
-- Neal Alsup
The out-of-box dashboards are higher level to watch the robots themselves (their activeness and where they are in their deployment). Specific robot queues I need to look that up for you!
-- Earl Duque

Hermes can be used as realtime tool for UI Pages ?
-- Jerry Martinez
Short answer will be yes, You have the hermes APIs that you can utilize and get the data to display on UI Page.
-- Pranav Bhagat

Any major changes on ITOM area?
-- Ramu Dunna
Not sure. That's outside the scope of what we covered in this video. I recommend watching our community for more information on that in the upcoming months.
-- Chuck Tomasi

how many subflows can be in a subflow? are there limits? what makes sense?
-- Esther Schwarzentruber
There is an action limit for each flow (a lot) so there's that limit, but I do not believe we limit how many times a subflow can be nested.
-- Earl Duque

Can you access a record's variables from decision builder? Variables from a record producer i mean
-- Dan Schreiber
Short answer - yes. Decision Builder just understands inputs, processes them according to the rules, and returns one or more outputs. Your flow would access the record fields/variables and pass those to the decision table as inputs.
-- Chuck Tomasi

Any update on Using GlideMutex with in Scoped Application ?
-- Pranav Bhagat
None that I've heard. Sounds like a great request for customer support if you haven't already.
-- Chuck Tomasi

Will the dark mode gaps be addressed in patches as well for Tokyo?
-- Shawn Bormann
Likely by release.
-- Earl Duque

Has there been any changes or improvements for the Service Portal
-- Tricia Lynch
There were a couple features that we didn't have time for in this video. A human readable URL feature to make knowledge base articles a little easier, and a sitemap generator. You can find both in our https://docs.servicenow.com pages with a simple search.
-- Chuck Tomasi

I see Hermes being used then for sending our historical data to a snowflake type environment.
-- Jon Beck
Yes Jon
-- Pranav Bhagat

Does it work on Windows and MacOs?
-- Mateusz Grześkowiak
RPA Is only for windows machines right now.
-- Earl Duque

Will PAD allow more access to tables that aren't currently available?
-- Aaron Braun
None that were listed in the pre-release information we had access to, but I would double check the docs when they are out to be sure!
-- Lauren McManamon

Do those product notifications work across the platform (platform, service portal, workspaces)?
-- Jonathan Ulrich
In almost everything with the platform UI yes. Service Portal is not within the platform UI though so it won't appear there. (for now)
-- Earl Duque

any update on CSDM?
-- Atul Grover
Not sure. The purpose of this content was platform, app engine, and automation engine. There should be some Utah sessions coming up in the next few weeks/months to cover CSDM changes.
-- Chuck Tomasi

comes JavaScript Log and Field Watcher back?
-- Esther Schwarzentruber
I'm not entirely sure of your question. Can you clarify in the comments below?
-- Chuck Tomasi

Can you please share some use cases of RPA? How the integration spoke for UI Path work with Servicenow's RPA
-- Abbas Abidi
There are tons of use case for RPAs, here are some of the use cases: 1. Uploading data from a excel file 2. Extracting data from a website 3. Medical bill processing 4 . Employee on-boarding / offboarding
-- Pranav Bhagat

Can the themes be segmented, i.e. theme 1 for company a and theme b for company b?
-- James Dunigan
Themes can be set as a default for all users and then each user can select their own theme under Preferences (like like personalizing the list layout, time format, etc.)

-- Chuck Tomasi

Will ES21 be available for Global scope as well?
-- Geza Orgo
Not as of Utah. Our product teams are working to make this happen in a safe way. Remember, there's a LOT of scripts in global that have been there for years (since the system was running ES3).
-- Chuck Tomasi

Difference between the Instance security vs Identity center
-- Srikanth Vemuri
Identity Center is a plugin that collects a few specific things. Instance security is much broader (if we're talking about the same thing.)
-- Chuck Tomasi

do you have changed the script editor from codemirror to monaco?
-- Martin Kirchweger
Short answer - yes.
-- Chuck Tomasi

thank you!
-- Jon Beck
Thank you!
-- Pranav Bhagat

Hello
-- Vijay Shankar

Why does ServiceNow position as a low-code tool instead of a no-code tool like other tools?
-- Akira Muranaka
I would imagine its because we offer such a spectrum of development - you CAN be a no-code developer and do some amazing things, same goes for pro-code. So positioning as low-code is probably the most realistic depiction for how most companies use it.
-- Lauren McManamon

What could be possible use case for using hermes as an enterprise wide solution?
-- Anmol Poddar
I'll have a use case later. We've rebuilt some of our existing tools like Instance Data Replication around Hermes for scale and performance.
-- Chuck Tomasi

when will the live session start to get live captioning
-- richard shackleton
Hi Richard, that is a great note and will pass it on to the Host.
-- Jessica V2

Oh no, not more Store apps to get free features
-- Philip Scherry
The biggest benefit from decoupling apps into the store is that you don't have to wait six months for a family release to get an update. :)
-- Chuck Tomasi

Do all the CI class tables have descriptions?
-- Evan Miller
(from the product manager) All of the "Recommended Tables" have descriptions in the search. In the future, admins will be able to curate the list of Recommended Tables as well as the descriptions. If customers want to see additional tables appear in the Recommended list, we are happy to hear that kind of feedback.
-- Chuck Tomasi

is there any plans to create a spoke to KACE
-- Karen Watson
Not that I'm aware. That doesn't mean it's not happening, only that I'm not aware of it. You may want to reach out to your account team so they can feed the request to the product team and check on demand.
-- Chuck Tomasi

What does RPA mean? and is it part of integration Hub
-- Tricia Lynch
RPA stands for Robotic Process Automation. It is part of the larger Automation Engine suite (as is Integration Hub and Document Intelligence.) Where IH is great for systems with APIs, RPA is used for legacy apps that don't.
-- Chuck Tomasi

I cannot see the UTAH release for request.
-- Shiraz Bhojani
It will be available later today for PDI upgrades.
-- Chuck Tomasi

what about 'old' workspaces that were created via app engine
-- Dan Schreiber
They will continue to exist as they always have! They will just not be able to be changed with Workspace Builder.
-- Lauren McManamon

What is required to enable the scanning?
-- Brian Huber
I'm going to assume you mean scanning documents in Document Intelligence? That would require an Automation Engine license. Talk to your account team for more details. Thanks.
-- Chuck Tomasi

can I turn on closed captioning?
-- Maria Younghans
Not on today's session, but we will bring that up to the Host.
-- Jessica V2

What kind of Automation we can expect between SN & SAP systems?
-- Ramu Dunna
The only thing I'm aware of at this point is the ERP Customization Mining to analyze customizations in your SAP system and help create ServiceNow counterparts, and also the SAP spoke for Integration Hub, of course.
-- Chuck Tomasi

Similar to how IntegrationHub ETL works with Data Sources, does IntegrationHub Import also work with Data Sources now to import the CSV files?
-- Evan Miller
Behind the scenes IH import handles CSV and XLS pretty much the same. It is constructing data sources, mappings, et al automatically.
-- Chuck Tomasi

When is GA of UTAH? is it in March?
-- Akira Muranaka
March 22 is the date I've been given
-- Chuck Tomasi

Decision table had a limit on complex OR and AND conditions not supported . Has that improved in Utah?
-- Shivangi Singh
From the product team: These types conditions are supported for all decision rows using decision rule view (starting in Tokyo). We have a warning about this in the decision rule view, but if a decision table has any of those complex conditions (OR, AND), users will no longer be able to use the Excel export/import feature

It is so hard to keep up with store updates that are not tied to a family. Is there any work being done to keep folks better informed about store releases?
-- Jace Benson
It's honestly a constant internal topic: whether separating things to the store vs keeping it as a release thing. I'll bug them more about it, thanks Jace, miss you!
-- Earl Duque

How many instance worker threads can theoretically be consumed by the Stream Connect message processing? Are there any limitations imposed to protect instance resources?
-- Mike Moody
The way we attain performance and scalability is to use the Hermes (Kafka) server. It's not going to eat up all the threads.
-- Chuck Tomasi

Will flow priorities be available for the existing flows? What will be the default priority then?

can you ask my question: Why does ServiceNow position as a low-code tool instead of no-code tool like other competitors?
-- Akira Muranaka
It's honestly a discussion kind of topic which we don't have time during this webinar, we would love to expand but will do so as a follow-up
-- Earl Duque

Speaking of themes, will there be any other themes provided OOB?
-- Susan Williams
Theme Builder ships with the Polaris and U.S. Web Design System Theme as of Utah, we are taking into account customer feedback for more themes. Many community users have created more theme variants and posted them to our Next Experience Product Hub:  https://www.servicenow.com/community/next-experience/ct-p/next-experience

When we upgrade a plugin, we are not always able to see when a plugin or sub plug in needs to be reaquired on ServiceNow store. The 'get' only appears in our production env. In many cases we use to install the sub plugin without needed to go to the store. (example - Expanded Model and Asset Classes) It is free but the legal effort to pull down the updated sub plugin is creating a legal review every time we need to go to the store to entitle some plugin even though it is free and part of our current license. Can this be made easier or more streamlined?
-- Jon Beck
Hey John, I can't say I'm intimately familiar with the way plugins and the store interact with your instance. I will check with our product teams to find out who owns this and see if they can follow up with you. Thanks.
-- Chuck Tomasi

-- Chuck Tomasi

Can we use RPA Hub to perform automation in Network Router or Firewall?

-- Earl Duque

CAn you clarify if you meant HashiCopr Vault or was that ServiceNow's own product called Vault?
-- adam bergere
Sorry for the confusion. Our "vault" suite is a grouping of products including data anonymization, secrets management, log export, and others. It is not related to the product/company you asked about.

ES12 for global apps?
-- Mike Wilson
Not as of Utah. It's still on the roadmap. There are a lot of older scripts in the global scope that date back to 2004 that were built on ES3 so we want to ensure the upgrade is done safely.
